Yesterday, Callaway Golf announced that it had acquired Toulon Design Putter Company. Take some time to watch Harry Arnett chat with Toulon cofounder, Sean Toulon. The excitement between the two is palpable. Sean is joining the Odyssey brand to help Callaway offer new and exciting products to their putter business. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed but judging by the banter in the video, everyone is excited about what’s to come.
Contrast this type of deal with how Callaway’s largest competitor handles small competitors in their line of business: with their legal team. Some companies are open to new and exciting ideas. Bringing in fresh faces and new lines of thinking. Other companies are more concerned with defending their position and digging the trenches deeper.
