Polymath. Generalist. Renaissance Man. Jack of all trades. Call him what you will but that guy you know with an endless list of hobbies has a unique ability to acquire new skills and knowledge. Once revered, the polymath used to be an integral part of a rapidly evolving society. Today, however, we put much more emphasis on domain expertise.
Part of the fun of being a polymath is the “discovery phase” of learning something new. However, the more important aspect is being able to draw on knowledge from multiple disciplines and apply that to a problem set. As the expression goes: when all you have is a hammer: everything looks like a nail. Expand your mental “toolbox” to include more utilities and how you view the world changes significantly.
Explore new fields. Learn something. Solve new problems.
